Help for residents affected by Barking Riverside Fire

Following the fire which occurred on Sunday 9th June around 3.30 pm efforts are underway to support residents, led by local people themselves alongside many different groups and agencies.
One simple way people might want to support is by donations – see this crowdfunder link below:

BRRA Emergency Meeting – 13th June 2019, 7.30pm @ The Rivergate Centre, Minter Road, Barking IG11 0FJ

Following the recent fire and displacement of residents from their housing an emergency meeting has been organised by Barking Reach Residents Association to plan a campaign for fire safety.

The items for discussion: immediate and ongoing safety issues

The agenda of the meeting will respond to the pressing needs that have both pre-existed and arisen including to secure permanent housing for displaced residents, call for the immediate removal of all cladding on the whole estate and replacement of balconies with brick and concrete structures. It will also review current safety measures on other buildings on the estate and ensure new fire safety checks are carried out in the light of what has happened and call for the release of existing fire safety assessments.

Resident Charter Organising Meeting – 20th June 2019 7-9pm @ Sue Bramley Centre, Bastable Avenue, IG11 0LH

A resident charter has been used by communities elsewhere in London, including the Stratford Olympic Park, to list things residents have prioritised that will benefit their area.

Reason to meet: to make sure the ‘growth’ and housing development across the whole Ward benefits local people.  To do this we will continue to do resident-led events, champion the issues residents say they are most concerned about and present this as a charter of ‘asks’ to those in charge of planning and development

Purpose:

A) Plan resident-led engagement

B) Review priorities and concerns

C) Learn together and support one another

This is a continuation of a series of events and workshops supported by local resident groups with facilitation by Architecture sans Frontière

All welcome, venue fully accessible, with refreshments provided
